JUVENILE RESOURCE
The Cramerton Police Department began a Juvenile Resource Officer (JRO) program in 1999 after receiving a grant from the Governor’s Crime Commission to fund the position. The officer was assigned as the School Resource Officer (SRO) at Cramerton Middle School. When the grant ended in 2002 the Department continued to fund the position and kept the program active. The officer’s responsibilities at the school include acting as a law enforcement officer, a law-related counselor and a law-related teacher. The officer is resource on law enforcement issues for students, parents, and school staff.
The Department’s Juvenile Resource Officer Program is different than most resource officer programs throughout North Carolina. The position is assigned to the Investigative Division of the Department and not only serves as the SRO for the middle school but is charged with the investigation of juvenile related crime within the Towns of Cramerton and McAdenville.
